As with much of my artwork, my approach to portraiture is much influenced by classicalism. While portraits must confirm to the important aspects of likeness, tone and character. I also like to express a play of light in paintings, using warm and dark tones to best represent the sitter.
Portraits can be so much more than just a likeness. They are used to express the sitters personality. With paintings showing a array of collections, hobbies and distinctions amongst other things.
I hope to ever develop my portrait work, with pieces branching into history painting and conversation pieces.
I work all sizes from small traditional to life sized. And many surfaces from canvas (linen and cotton), to board and paper.
